March 5th : Getting to know your camera basics

The difference between compact digital cameras and D-S.L.RÕs

Looking at the digital camera basics Ð shooting digital vs. film

The importance of your cameraÕs manual

Introduction to Exposure & Histograms

Getting images onto your hard drive & putting your images up online

Reading: Chapter 1 (Your  Camera) & 2  (What To Shoot)

Assignment: Read your camera manual; learn to control Shutter speed, Aperture, and ISO

Bring in 3 photographs that you would be proud to have taken

 

 

March 12th : Controlling your camera

Look at images that were brought in

 What is going on in there? Mysteries explained

ÒExposure TriangleÓ: Shutter speed, Aperture, and ISO

Motion Blur, Depth of field, Noise

Metadata (EXIF) on the camera

Reading: Chapters 3 (File Formats) & 1/2 of 4 (Exposure) p. 58-91

Assignment: Shutter Speed (Stop and Blur action: p. 81)

 

 

March 19th : Editing files on the computer

Look at assignments (bring on a CD or flash drive or put images up online before class)

Open files on the computer, viewing metadata on the computer

File Types (Tiff, Jpeg, & Raw)

Look at Histograms on Camera and on Computer

Levels & curves on the computer

Reading: Chapters 5 (Light) & 2nd 1/2 of 4 (Exposure) p. 92-107

Assignment: Control Depth of Field (p. 91) - Twice

 

 

March 26th :  Getting ideas

Look at assignments

Discuss light & controlling white balance on your camera

Slide show- looking at successful photos

Reading: Chapter 6 (Composition)

Assignment: Create interesting compositions Ð take 5 different photos of the same object.

 

 

April 2nd : Evening shoot-out

Look at assignments

Questions & Answers: Review of all we have learned

Evening stroll with cameras- bring a tripod if you have one and dress warmly
