Conglomerations, 2004 – 2005
There is life on these freeways. People share the road but enveloped in their cars they rarely acknowledge each other. Plants find ways to imbed themselves between units of asphalt. Our roads are designed to get us there- the views are secondary, happenstance. Cement cracks, Birds poo, garbage is tossed, and people drive on. I have gotten out of the car on the side of the freeway; besides being illegal, it is loud, inhospitable and scary. The camera captures details that I cannot stop to look at without endangering myself and others around me. By merging multiple images I present the landscape in both the bits and pieces I find, and as the whole I know is out there. These digital c-prints measure 14" tall, with widths varying from 53" - 62".
